My only concern about signing him would be his motivation. Dropping a division and playing for a smaller club, he might not perform as well as he has over the years.
We've seen enough players that have played at the top then failed miserably when they arrive at LR.Supporting QPR isn't just about a football team. It's about roots and identity.

Clearly I was the best player on the pitch.

He could play at 30% and he would still score more goals than AJ and Zamora put together this season.Originally posted by QPR Richard View PostMy only concern about signing him would be his motivation. true and 30 is not old if he keeps in shape. look at Giggs, Phillips or go back to Sheringham.Originally posted by SammyKojoe View PostDefoe is from all reports including himself saying he is the fittest and sharpest he has ever been. Your not buying him to sell him on you are buying him to score you goals which he will.
Defoe is likely to score in two thirds of Championship games because unlike other strikers he is capable of creating chances to score out of nothing.

Would we have won today if Defoe was up front alongside Austin and Johnson ? yes we most probably would...............Originally posted by SammyKojoe View PostSome people saying no to Jermain Defoe. I really have read it all.
The guy will score 15 to 20 goals in the Premier League let alone the championship. He plays most weeks and scores for a top 4/5 Premiership side, has consistently scored goals at that level and is an England international who scores on that stage as well.He would absolutely rip the championship apart and score for fun.
But yet because he is 30 ( So is Van Persie so i guess we would reject him on that basis ) he is too old. Ridiculous. So what if he costs 6 million quid. If he gets the goals to secure promotion it is more than a bargain.

His motivation would be to score week in week out and get in the World Cup squadOriginally posted by QPR Richard View PostMy only concern about signing him would be his motivation. Dropping a division and playing for a smaller club, he might not perform as well as he has over the years.

People saying 6 million is to much for Defoe? Really?!
It's about right in my opinion and a front two of Defoe and Austin would be worth 50+ league goals.
Defoe is deadly and will be scoring lots of goals for at least the next four years. I'd do everything possible to sign the lad.
He's hardly going to come here for the ride is he? Dropping down to the Championship and scoring 30 goals will do his England chances more good than sitting on the bench at Spurs and scoring 5-10 goals.

I really hope we sign him, but I don't agree about the world cup bit. Woy only looks at top prem players (apart from lambert who got called up a few days ago)..so he wouldn't even look in the championship, even if defoe was to get 40 goals. He has a better chance as a squad player at spurs to be honest.Originally posted by Mattyqpr View PostPeople saying 6 million is to much for Defoe? Really?!

Don't think we paid as much as 6m for Bobby but I see your logic. The fact is a side in the Championship should be paying 6m and Premiership wages for anyone, especially a player over 30. If we don't go straight back up it will come back to haunt us!Originally posted by WCE View PostConsidering we paid around 6 mill for Bobby, the same for Defoe is a bargain.

Seems to me that any of the potential purchases from Spurs will go right to the wire, partly because both Harry and Levy love doing it that way and also because Spurs are asking too much for Defoe, Parker and Townsend. If it gets down to moving them on or having them sit around and draw wages, either outside of the squad or unlikely to play, then the prices will get more realistic.
