if we was to sign/loan a decent left back and striker you are then looking at promotion realistically.

    think:

    cerny

ramage connolly gorkss/hall bale(as he was suggested)

    routledge faurlin watson taarabt

    simpson hooper

not to mention we would have a bench consisting of: buzsaky, vine(some say he needs time i hope so..) helguson(always gets in the position to score which is more than pelicori or aggy) gorkks/hall/stewart rowlands leigertwood and even cook.

that squad of players has balance and quality in every area. goals win games and we are basically relying on simpson to score bundles which is a hell of an ask for a reserve/youth player.

today is irrelevant... simpson, hooper, bale along with watson should have been our targets back in june/july. especially since this league is 10x harder than last years and we couldnt score goals then.

we have signed some v good players but we have also missed out on some because we acted too late.

never the less im happy with our dealings.. apart from pellicori as i feel he just isnt needed.. he will need 1/2 months to settle and try and get a chance to play. which we dont really have time for.

faurlin, watson is going to be huge for us.. i hope watson is a leader.. however i wonder where this leaves rowlands and legiertwood

Oh s**t...it's 6 weeks in...we need a striker...let's leave it another week or two and make a bid fro Hooper with 2 hours left in the market to give them time to find a replacement. What a load of b0ll0cks. We can't replace Dex in two months, yet we expect Scunny to replace one in two hours?

        Joke.

or would you rather have brett angell back?
Not the point - we had to make do with the likes of Angell when we were skint - now we have money we're investing in cheap foreigners or loans.

Try something different. Let's support the team and the players. If you can manage it until 31st December, these are our players until then. If we get behind them instead of on top of them, they may raise their game to meet us.

Ha ha! Well done Scott, that made me laugh, on an otherwise depressing day! My missus says thanks for the offer, but when she needs a toothpick, she'll get back to you.

Joking aside, bar a couple of Premiership clubs...we have the richest owners in the country. Makes you wonder how they all get on together?

in truth mate why should i act happy when i am not......just because it annoys other people......and who said i wasn't behind the team.....if you kid players they are good when they are not then they start believing it...and that is not a good thing

i have always been taught to tell the truth....manners and all that

In my mind, there's no doubt we are slowly putting together a decent squad, and Simpson and Watson are good signings. Bale added to that would be a great addition.

Despite what many are suggesting, we don't have too many who are surplus to requirements; Pat and Mahon are two who could go now, Alberti could be either loaned or sold and I think Cook is also now a long way down the pecking order. Ains I kinda discount, because he isn't going to play, but is a great influence to have around, and if he's happy to leave things as they are, then fine. If he wants to play somewhere elsewhere, that's fine too.

The problem is still the strength and depth in the striking department, and i do understand that this is likely to cost lots of dough to fix. If we needed to raise funds, then you could look to sell Legs for approx £2m, and keep Mahon. In my mind, neither is starting XI material now, if you want cover, mahon could provide it just as well.

We have four very good quality CBs, and one could be sold again for about £2-3m without significantly damaging our squad options; Oastler could be loaned out for experience, and brought back in if needed in an emergency.

Cook once he is fit could surely fetch another £1m. If another striker is coming in, HH could go for a similar amount.

So there you have £6-7m available to source two good quality strikers, simply by selling fringe players, plus a more balanced squad, basically two players for every position.

With that kind of planning, it might not have been necessary to go running to Scunny with a panic bid for Hooper at the last minute. There's no need to talk about football experience to sit down and work all that out. Just five minutes of quiet, logical thought.

I wonder when there was last five minutes of quiet, logical thought regards out team and squad planning at HQ?

Bernie I think some of your valuations are on the optimistic side but I agree entirely with your basic point.
