On a report on one of the Sports channels in the US (not sure which one my brother in law was flicking through the channels), the ticker at the bottom of the screen said that Rio was going to work for the BBC next season.

The real issue is, do we sign an ageing player whose best days are long gone with long standing injury problems, or do we go for good players we can further develop?

I'm fed up of us getting has-beens. I want us signing the next Les Ferdinand or Paul Parker, or Macca, or Sinclair etc. We will never do this getting the likes of Rio or Lumpalard. Signing players such as SWP, Young, AJ, Dyer etc has been a disaster.

30Kpw + bonuses on pay as you play 12months + option would be my offer.

Well you say the money is down to the money men, by the same token Harry would probably say the footballers are down to the football men - him and his coaches, not us.

I don't blame you for being against a revolving door of aged crocks, all sensible fans are totally fed up with it and in this respect Redknapp has been at least as bad as Hughes. I would just caution against assuming that all old player are bad acquisitions and all our signings will be old this time. A centre back pairing of Rio and Lascalles or Caulker, for instance, could be a really good balance. If its Rio and Dunne or Rio and Clint, however, I wd agree with you entirely.
