Exactly. It was a deflection of a defender and therefore offside.
Luck doesn't come into it; if our defender tried to play the ball, then it would if been onside.
As for the pen. Not in a million years.

So happy with today's result! After a pitiful performance against Millwall I really didn't hold much hope. Smyth was so good today! Considering how big some of the Cardiff defenders were compared to Smyth I though he was really brave, played with confidence and good awareness which showed in his off ball movement. Really pleased he got the winner and what a goal it was!

I think we play much better against the top sides and it goes to show how close this league is and how unpredictable it can be...Millwall and Cardiff both bang average, but Cardiff clearly better than Millwall yet we lose to Millwall and beat Cardiff?!

But it was still a richly deserved win
Youve also been saying all week we are a certainty for a relegation battle!

    Always agree with Dad!

Not how I saw it mate. Haven't had a good look at the replays though.

The Cardiff player played the ball, even though it also caught a bit of the defenders boot. The fact that the attacking player played the ball means that Hoilett was offside, and he was by a good yard I think.

Don't think their was anything lucky at all about today. Good performance all round, and if anyone had grounds to complain about the ref it was us.

Anyone catch Hughes' press conference? Reporter was querying why he rested players against Chelsea then lost at home today. He got the hump and walked out!

Madness really, ain't it? 4 losses on the bounce ain't good, but they have a load of injuries don't they?

As for them being robbed, he's always been like that hasn't he? Only ever sees his point of view.
