  • More than adequate squad - poor manager

Does anyone else think that we do actually have a decent enough squad, but they are not managed properly? Maybe we are a player or two short, but on paper we should have easily enough quality to stay up.

Green is a great keeper, Isla has been great and so has Yun. Question marks are left with the center backs for me, but there should be enoguh quality still to see us through.

Then in midfield, surely Fer should be starting in the center alongside Sandro or Barton/Henry (whoever is on form). Instead of wasting Fer (a top player) on the wing. Fer was man of the match earlier in the season when he played in the middle, but since then he has been moved to the left and is nowhere near as good, so frustrating. Phillips should be able to do a decent enough job on the right hand side given a run of games, and on the left we have options such as Adel, Niko. This position could arguably be improved, but not with Fer!

Then up front we are short of numbers, but surely there enough with Austin and Zarate (who is rated highly with West Ham fans) and of course Vargas who is excellent for his country. He scores two vs Liverpool then moves to the wing. Zamora should be an impact sub at best.

Of course one or two positions could be improved but there is enough quality there if players aer played in their correct positions, and if we start more positively in games rather than falling behind and then changing it when its too late. Am i missing something, or is it really as simple as that, and our manager is deluded?

Think most of us share that sentiment tbh Jill.

With a manager capable of utilising his squad properly (somebody like Dyche even), I don't think we would be in as much of a relegation scrap as we are at all. Don't get me wrong we don't hav an amazing squad, but we have som very good players. The likes of Vargas & Fer are not being made the most of whatsoever.
You should never underestimate the predictability of stupidity.

Good OP... Would love for us to get Eddie Howe or Karanka.

If Palace can grab Pardew then surely we can grab any top Championship manager at the moment.

Agree. Squad like ours with decent coaching and tactics should be somewhere around 10-13 at least.

How and why did I start supporting QPR in Estonia:

harry is terrible but come on he cant be blamed for the stupid sunday league mistakes by the players against stoke and burnley. And any team with zamora, hoilett, dunne , henry and hill in it is not going to survive the prem imho.

unforunately teams on paper dont win matches...the manager/coaches job is to assemble a team, prepare it physically and mentally to try to win/draw football matches...imho redknapp and his staff have failed to do this consistently in his tenure here!
              you know nothing john snow!!!!

Its his job to stop those individual errors mate, that's why you hear managers say 'we need to cut out the individual errors'.. We've had too many of them. Its a lack of defensive organisation.

i agree kev....one flukey win on a memorable day in may has clouded many judgements...hill/dunne/henry/zamora n hoilett are awful!

Poor manager and poor squad mate. Managers fault though on the whole cos he bought and plays them.

the butt ultimately stops with him.....players brought in....not played...sold off.........in any other managerial position his continual mistakes would lead to dismisal!

Agreed ...a decent squad although we are a striker light..but against that is down to HR obsession with midfielders and ex spurs players...badly handled

I wouldnt think any of them lot would get into any other prem teams starting 11 and i include those we are fighting relegation with

Yeah, and who selects said donkeys to play in the side??

In addition to that, who plays some of our best players out of position robbing us of their potential influence on the game, not to mention impacting their performance and confidence as a result....?

And who destroys the confidence of players who specialise in certain positions, by playing others out of position, in their role, instead of them....??

And who requests a creative player / striker in the window, gets Zarate and then chooses to never play him?

And who sets up the team away from home with the slowest starting 11 known to man, plays defensively and almost guarantees we'll concede at least one before maybe considering a positive change of personel?

And who's plan when we need a goal is to repeatedly put on the most goal shy striker in the history of footall and ignore far beter alternatives...??

                              Do you see the pattern....????

Redknapp is without a doubt the problem. Our squad is decent and has enough to surivive no doubt if in the hands of any other manager.
