However, your second scenario does fit in with the current business model adopted by the owners.

If we do fail to win promotion, (which is highly likely), the plan is to sell our stars on for big money, retrench, buy some unpolished gems, polish them, and go again. I say promotion is highly unlikely at present, solely because only three teams can win promotion, so the odds are against us. Current form adds to the unlikeness.

So, if the likely outcome transpires, our only hope is that the owners stick to their plan. I think, given their support over recent years, they are entitled to take a little profit off the table, but I hope its not enough that they have to abandon their current business model.

Good post. We should also remember that we haven’t spent much and that our model in terms of buying players takes risks in terms of players not championship level proven eg Dykes, Dickie, Willock, Ball etc, those with injury problems eg Moses, Austin , De Vijs etc and youth coming through.

I fully expect us to sell one or 2 in the summer and reinvest

I may be wrong but I doubt whether we are expecting promotion this season

I think we should also be thankful that we have great owners who are now running the club sensibly - we could be in Derby’s or Readings situation!
