Up to a point Lord Copper. Hughes did bring in a lot of players but the biggest problem was that most of them weren't good enough either (or fit enough or motivated enough).
We saw towards the back end of last season that players like derry were really struggling with the prem league. the comparisons with norwich and swansea in particular are not entirely fair because swansea had a youngish and fairly talented squad who cd step up to the prem. we basically had a brilliantly drilled team of championship hoofers plus adel and faurlin. you cd have made a case for mackie and hill and possibly even gorks (though reading fans wd say he has now been found out) but beyond that it was hard to see much prem quality in that squad.
