We need 1.3 points per game. Can we do it?

17th currently is Sunderland or Villa, (sunderland still playing now) and projecting their 14 points from 15 games means that after 38 games they will be on just over 35 points, so hypothetically 36 points should be 17th and safety at seasons end.

Therefore we need 30 more points from our remaining 23 games, which is 1.3 points per game. Can we do it?

It means that each time we draw we are still losing ground unless we can mix it with at least a couple of wins each month. I don't want to think about what losing does to the stats, we just need to get into a habit of at least winning home games, draws are not good enough. If there are 4 games per month, then one win, two draws and one defeat each month is only 5 points and not good enough, we need 2 wins per month.

I'm not sure we can do it, but it's not as bad as I first suspected.

Yes. Last two performances we've been unlucky. Win against Wigan and I think we'll be on the road to recovery.

No, the team will continue on the same form giving away cheap goals and not scoring. It will not be Harry's fought as he has inherited the squad that does not have the right mix.

The only thing to say with any certainty on the subject is that nobody knows how many points will be needed to survive. I looked it up the other day when people were going on about 40 pts. The average over last 9 yrs was 35 to survive but as low as 31.

There are teams in this league capable of having as bad a run as we've had before the end of the season.

Our next 5 games are all winnable

                          Wigan. Struggling east season.
Fulham: Have not won any of their last 7 games. Only picked up 4 points from them.
Newcastle: Currently in a bad form. No wins in their last 7 games (including 2 Europa League games).
WBA: Lost their last 2 games which could be the start of a bad form?
                          Liverpool: Always struggle away.

Anything less than 8 points from these and our situation becomes worse. At 1.3 points per game needed, this should be the absolute minimum, however I would prefer 9 or 10 points because none of them are teams in the top 6 where we might expect to lose or draw, so we need a cushion with the easier games.

The club needs to take this points target very seriously, if we keep drawing, our position becomes worse without a few wins mixed in.
