This is actually a promising sign. If the board have made a decision to axe him, they are not going to change their mind. What i suspect has happened is:

1) Board met and decided to get rid - i suspect his actually happened prior to the weekend
2) Hughes met with Beard monday - Beard asked him to walk and he said no, Beard aksed him what he wants
3) The board now enter a period of negotiating his pay off with him

The bottom line is Tony doesn't want to lose our premier status, so hughes must be history regardless of what he might be saying.

Yes, especially after all the media attention yesterday. You'd expect Tony to say something in support of Hughes, but nothing. Could be a sign?

My guess is that it would be cheaper to pay him off. The cost of going down will far exceed £7million!! That and the cost of getting back up again!
