blue and white hoops from 1960 season

we started off with the wycombe wanderers colours then went for green and white stripes which then turned into hoops,


then a blue and white hooped shirt appeared


but the classic white shorts and white socks didnt appear untill the 1960 season,so thats when the club really started to become the qpr of today.................

well we did have a white shirt ,but i think we played with blue shorts with it,the main question is was it us or reading that adopted the broad white blue and white hooped shirt,and there is no dobt that qpr discoverd this in 1926 at that time reading were playing in dark blue striped shirts

although of course reading did play in very fine blue and white hoops far before qpr,we did invent that broad hoops,we probabley stole the idea from rugby

in 1926 the kit we designed was very much as it is today but had black socks,then we played for about six seasons with white sghirt and blue shorts,then we used roughly the same format as we have today

ofcourse if you want to know was it us or reading that invented the large hooped shirts,none of us can trully claim to have discoverd this shirt


as it was first discoverd by scottish team greenock morten they were the origionals both ourselvs and reading copied them,but lets not worry too much about that,we are the most famous of the blue and white hooped teams

We used the 'Hoops' from 1926 and Reading from 1938 (with some right rascal designs in between)

I can't stand seeing us in what many regard as primarily Reading kit. The broad hoops are part of the club identity because they are unique, as Ted says they had been used in rugby for years but were absent from football until we made them our own.

If we are to have three shirts, the big hooped design could be used for blue/white red/black green/white. Sorted...

How we ended up in all white in the league cup year I'm not sure....

EDIT if you check out the b/w pic in the QPR linky in the post above, it clearly shows the rugby crossover. I happen to think the old style rugby shirt with thick hoops (as in the pic) is a really classic look.

I still don't see a massive difference in the hoop thickness between us and Reading. We've both had thin and thick hoops.

The one thing we have done was maintain a full hoop whereas they've gone for a plain back in recent years, and have dropped the hoops entirely on occasion.

The League Final thing was to do with the telly coverage wasn't it, to make the kits different enough to be able to tell them apart?

It would be easy to get a bit too obsessive about this but I'll run the risk.... we were broad hoops as far back as the mid 20s. Reading didn't go in that direction until post war. So the broad hoop needs reclaiming by us.

Like I said the three combos are great colours, pulling on an orange jersey just because its some marketing bloke's idea of contemporary (and therefore already out of date ;)) is beyond sad imo.
