Hoilett vs SWP

I really cannot believe that we would play SWP instead of Hoilett. What was the thinking behind this? That SWP might be "up for it" against his former club? That he scored in midweek so will be high in confidence? That he had a decent pre-season against rubbish foreign teams?

Hoilett is a much better player than SWP in each and every way. The only thing SWP has is pace, he can put his head down, run past someone, but then he is clueless. He can't cross, he can't dribble, he lacks composure on the ball, he can't hold the ball up and bring others into the game. Hoilett on the other hand has all these things.

Yes, Hoilett had a poor game against Norwich, but the job of a good manager is to encourage the good players after they have a bad game so that they come back stronger, not start changing the team like a headless chicken.

I'm so glad we've got hughes managing and not one of the fans.. Picking a team for a game is about assessing the relative merits of each player with regards to the specifics of the opposition you're facing. Not just saying "he's better than him, so he should play". I'm guessing cisse should have started ahead of zamora cus' he's better right?

I wouldn't of called him good today to be honest but i understood why he was played instead of hoilett in a tactical sense

I don't think it's creditable to use the Walsall game as an example. SWP was poor last Tuesday (apart from a toe-poke). But Hoilett was toilet ! He looked overweight and was just about as lazy a performance I've seen since our last Carling/Capital Cup game. I don't recall him beating his marker all night. I suspect he was dropped as a result.
Ordinarily, I would have started with Adel, but if he's considered a non starter Away, I might have considered Traore wide left. Our best crosser and he troubled them last season I recall.

SWP is a worry for me - I agree with much of the concerns about what he offers. Poor 1st touch, Can't shoot, Doesn't beat anyone, Rarely get to the touch line to cross, Always preferring to cut in. Today, he must have thought he was still playing for City the number of times he passed to their players. (Or lost possession).
