  • Barton answers the question why should we give him a second chance

    This is from his website

Q - I've learnt as a QPR fan I'm embarrassed to see our name and badge associated with you now.
    *
Why should we give you another chance after all the things you've done in your career, it seems as though you will never change. I watched the Man City game with some people oversees and I was proud to be a QPR fan whilst we were fighting off the leaders and avoiding relegation, it was such a great day for the club. Then when you did what you did I just felt utter embarrassment.
    *
How is Tony Fernandes supposed to build up an oversees fan base when we have players doing things like what you did in the Man City game, who wants to support a team with players like that in it?
    *
Why should QPR fans give you a second chance?

A - *davesmith86*I am sorry that you feel that way. I have tried to do my best to move past that incident. The answer to your Q, I dont feel is best answered on a forum of a website. I think that type of Q, is best answered through performances and attitude. Similar, to the ones I think I have shown a number of QPR fans, during the season and more importantly at the end of the season when the club was threatened with the prospect of relegation. Only time will tell whether I managed to do that or not but I am not gonna sit here and say, I do this or that because its only words. Hopefully, in time Dave I can get the chance to prove my worth to the club through performances. Thanks for the post. JB

Like him or not I think he's a good player, he's extremely honest & I admire that, good luck to him
    Under Les Ferdinand:
Luke Freeman, top assists in the league: 4million
Alex Smithies, great goalie for this club: 3,5million
Charlie Austin, 19 Premier League goals: 4million
Jack Robinson: Contract ran out, left for free
    And many more mistakes

LES FERDINAND, IT'S TIME TO GO

Shame the massive wages we're paying him, weren't motivation enough to prove his worth earlier in the season.

I hope he's right and he can earn his money when & if he returns.

        Fair play to him.

I think he has some fundamental personality issues to manage - but I'd rather have one of our players taking that approach to getting back rather than sitting there, taking the cash, with no intention of pushing for a place....... Like Vine for example.

At the end of the day he's a quality footballer. Hopefully he gets the buzz again........

He's a passionate player, he won't change. He didn't have a good season in his first with us, his bad did outweigh the good. However, he is a battler who is a very good prem player and I for one will be happy to have him back to prove his worth. He will deliver.

How much is Barton on then?

                Reputedly about 80K a week?

My view is that in an ideal world, if he was at the end of his contract, we should both move on - and apart. But the simple facts are that he has another 3 years contracted, and in any case it would not be easy to persuade another club to take him on a deal that would make it worth his while.

So. So that is the position and we have to make the best of it. This means keeping him on board, and hoping he will start to turn in the sort of performances we know he is capable of. He clearly has personality and anger management issues and we have to help him continue to deal with them Somewhere in there is a very decent bloke struggling to get out, and a very decent player too. If he can fulfil his potential on the pitch it will help him fulfil his potential off the pitch. That's the simplest way I can put it.

Safe to say it's a large amount of money, and before the January window, he was likely top earner.

I seriously doubt this 80k a week stuff to be honest I don't think any of our players are on 60k onwards.

Oh right, well you made the claim it was massive, but you don't really know do you? Pro-footballers earn a fortune compared to me, but I don't know what Barton earns compared to other players at the club and you implied you know.

Always amuses me when people debate about what players are earning. I don't have my company's customers debating what I earn. It's sod all to do with them. It's between me and my boss. Would you be willing to discuss your salary in public?

People should focus on what he does for QPR not what he earns. His wages are none of our business. My own view is that I think he will come back much better for it, both as a player and a person. He knows he's in the last chance saloon at the top level now.
