    Too many Midfielders?

Say we do sign Holliet and KI, dont you think its too many in the middle of the park? As Holliet ive always seen plays as a winger and Ki is center mid.

    Faulin
    Diakite
    Taarabt
    Holliet
    Ki
    Park
    Barton
    Mackie
    SWP
    Derry

Faurlin - On his way back from a career threatening injury.
    Taarabt - A CM? Erm...ok!
    Hoilett - As above!
    Mackie - As above!
    SWP - As above!

    That should answer your question........

We either have too many strikers or too many midfielders depending on what formation we play. Hoillet and Ki are potential arrivals but there could also be potential departures.

Where he said "middle of the park" he meant just midfielders in general.

Fair enough but still, it's a 25 man squad, ideally we need 4 wingers and 4 CM.

Don't think Barton is in long term plans.

HAlf of them will be utilised as wingers / attacking wide men possibly in a 433, so overlap midfielders / forwards. I still wouldn't be overly surprised if Derry went to Leeds before the window shuts....

seriously, if we sign some great quality defenders,we might stand a chance of getting into top 10 this season.

I think we've got a great chance with the squad as it stands now....

I think he may go with PArk and Diakite in the middle with Adel and SWP wide, Cisse and Zamora up top.

I would be a bit dissapointed if he had 2 defensive mids against Swansea at hom , first game... we should go for the jugular and try to get some goals.

To be fair the only really purely defensive midfielder in there is Derry.

Anyway as Spain showed this summer, formations are neutral. It's how you implement them that matters. Two players in the defensive midfield positions doesn't automatically equate defensive or counter-attacking football. Likewise playing two strikers isn't always more offensive than playing one.

If Hoilett AND Ki arrive I'm assuming Hughes will put it down to having a variety of options rather than them both slotting into a single masterplan. I can't quite see how it will work otherwise.

Ki and Faurlin as a central pivot in front of the defence in a 4-2-3-1 does sound potentially very tasty. But who plays in front? Three out of Taarabt, Park, Hoilett, Diakite. And even then you could make a good case for Mackie in there with him Park together pressing high and giving the central midfielders space to work.

I see the midfield now as..

                          Adel Diakite Faurlin Park
Only one of the voices in my head is crazy...

                            Park -

                            Derry - Reserves

Not sure how Park and Hoilett would both play at the same time, seeing as MH plays 442, Tarbs would need to be dropped

We'll play 4-2-3-1 next season with Hoilett and Park wide, Taarabt off Cisse.
