Rodney Marsh, they man who caused the demise of QPR FC.

He may have been good on the pitch, but I will only remember him sitting on SAR with a smug look on his face and a scarf around his neck, Gerry Francis looking up and bingo, we were in the wilderness for 16 years.......

I have no doubt in my mind, if Thompson and Marsh had not done what they had done that fateful night, we would not have been relegated.

well firstly sanderson number eight


a player that everybody always forget is keith sanderson he played number eight and was a real grafter,if you are keith sanderson then you should be very proud of yourself

because keith sanderson created so much,in those days you useally had an inside forward who was a joint striker

but also there was the terry venables,keith sanderson type player who used to thread the ball through to the strikers

now for paul mason you are of course correct that rodney did a terrible destableization job on our club

it of course led to us putting the worst ever manager in the history of the club in the hot seat

but rodney today must be debated for the thing he did the best ,that is to let his feet do the talking

1 - Rodney was not sitting in the stand with a scarf on, after talking to Thompson about becoming director of Football ?
2 - Gerry Francis didn't look up, saw him sitting there and resigned, like he said he would ?
3 - QPR were not relegated ?
4 - There exile from the top league did not last last 16 years ?

If on the other hand you are saying all of the above is true, but because RM played well for QPR FC, it does not matter, I bet you are the kind of person who would argue that Allen Stanford should not have been jailed for 110 years, after ruining the lives of 30,000 people because he done a good turn for cricket!

A bloke I used to sit next to in the upper loft once told me he used to go to Man U games whenever they were in town purely to see George Best. He told me of one game where two players challenged Best for the ball and in a flash he'd done both of them and was gone, see ya later.

Never saw him myself, nor Rodney, which is a shame.

I started this thread to appreciate the greatest footballer ever to wear a qpr shirt


I am of course sad that rodney said in a newspaper if gerry francis didnt resign from qpr he would lose respect for him

I have no idea why rodney got involved with richard thomson but gerry as a manager was crucial to qpr

i doubt if les ferdinand would have been sold untill gerry had a replacement

so i can see where you fans are comming from with your anger ,but I am only really looking for a debate abour rodney as a player does any body think that stan bowles was a better player

I never saw Rodney Marsh play, but I saw plenty of Stan Bowles, who remains my QPR hero to this day. I find it difficult to think there's been a better player for us, but only those who saw both regularly can really judge.

This debate's been going on for nearly 40 years and I don't think it'll ever be concluded. It's all about opinions.

I know im young and so didnt see most of these players play, but suprised no one has mentioned Wilkins? is it because of his ill fated managerial career with us? or that he wasnt at his prime when playing for us? because lets be fair, he was a top player, if he wasn't would never have player for Utd or Milan

He was a good player yes, but unfortunately, you never got to see Gerry Francis or Don Masson play. Now they were really good.
