yeah... i really like the sound of that.
portugal are, imo, really comparable to england at the mo'... over-reliant on a handful of players, but the difference is, i don't see where their next generation comes from. we could learn a lot from germany where the good of national mannschaft always comes before individual teams - we shouldn't have so much of this 'cap-in-hand' begging from the national team for players to be available for international duty (imo, this is the real problem of all the cash that sloshes around the premier league).Comment

Who cares about British players, we should only care about English players as its an English league, just like the Germans did years ago and who now use their league to benefit the national team.Last edited by paulmason; 25-06-2012, 07:14 AM.Comment

Portugal have plenty of young talent on their way and also a squad for this euro with almost every player under 30. For England it's time for a new generation. Gerrard, lampard and terry are all finished at this level now.Comment

No winter break...too many games...PL/Sky at commercial odds with the FA...so many reasons why the national team are given no favours whatsoever, it's hardly a surprise. Stan Collymore was right last night when he said the England players looked totally dead on their feet.
Couple that with our inferior technical ability to simply RETAIN possession of a football and be able to accurately pass to a team-mate when under pressure (like the Germans, Croatians, Greeks, Spanish, Portugese, Italians, French can ALL do with ease) and it's obvious we'll always remain a 1/4 final team AT BEST.Comment

I love this after every quarter final defeat, we should have changed the way we teach kids after the World Cup 2002 , it will all be forgotten when the qualifiers start, and England get through to another tournament, go to South America, fail, then come home to another why are we no good at keeping the ball investigation....Comment

GREEKS??!? Or we could try and win more that 15% of our Penalties. No winter break...too many games...PL/Sky at commercial odds with the FA...so many reasons why the national team are given no favours whatsoever, it's hardly a surprise. If you teach kids from ages 9 onwards in academy's that possession is king, to teach them in small sided games where you have to receive the ball under pressure and to work on both feet, you will produce better technical players for the future. This is starting to happen but not everywhere because we are still in a win at all cost bubble over here.Comment
