    Signings

There is a lot of disappointment re the current free signings but just maybe they are part of a bigger plan.Do you really think Hughes would still be here if he didn't have money to spend.

Let's say he has 20 million to spend would you rather he spent that on 4 o 5 players 2 of which will sit on the bench thus lowering the quality of the starters?

Maybe just maybe he needs to fill the squad with experienced prem players and wants 2 or 3 players that will make a real difference adding a few young ones like the lads from Spurs and Wolves who he can develop.

He knows what he is doing and to be honest Johnson, Nelson and Green are massive improvements on our squad from last year. Be patient there will be some signings no one is expecting maybe Wanyama from Celtic, great prospect and can play both centre back and midfield !

agree. It's not always about transfer fees. You can get quality for free transfers also had we have to remember that usually free agents get better wages and signing fee,so they gonna cost also. I doubt that if Flavio and Bernie were still at club we won't expecting to sign Johnson,Green and Nelsnr for free because those two would'nt pay such a wages for them. I think Hughes will be very pleased to get those 3 players for free and still have money to spend and improve our squad

Green is undoubtedly a big step up from Kenny. Nelson is an improvement on Hall. Johnson an improvement on Hulse/ Macheda. However, to avoid another relegation dog-fight we need a higher calibre first choice centre half because brilliantly as Clint did, Anton needs more than that next to him this year. A good right winger wd be another big step up. Unclear at this stage whether Sparky holding back on his big signing (s) or whether the board has said "we've already spent a lot, you've got to do better with what you have."

Add to that free agent players can be signed now while others with contracts will take time!

We need a decent 25 man squad, Hughes is simply signing experienced players who know how the league works. I doubt Nelsen or Johnson will be first choice but there will be a time when they need to play and i'd rather Nelsen and Johnson be playing than Perone and Agyemang. It's a squad game and these are good signings by Hughes.

Since we're released 10 players, we need to replace them somehow.

So far so good imo... 3 improvements... For people slating green you must be mad.... All keepers make mistakes. Paddy kenny making quite a few imo...nelson played 5 games for spurs last season and the games I saw looked as comfortable then what we have..... Andy johnson isn't a goal scorer but his movement his second to none.... Be patient they will come....

Green is a bug signing for us and a very good prem goalkeeper. Again Nielsen and Johnson both great signings on a free prob not first choice but great squad players to have. Hughes is dealing with the frees ASAP and we will see younger players arrive for a fee in the next few weeks so no need to panics we will have decent squad for next year!

All three of the players mentioned would of got a club quickly if we had not moved

Green being heavily linked to WBA.

WBA can't agree a fee with Birmingham for Foster.

I'd love us to sign Foster, i've always said that but i don't want us to miss out on signing Green if it means signing Given or Gomes.
