Which is the better train from WBA back to new street?

The metro or rolfe street? Is the metro too packed to get onto? My train back to london is 18.13

Get the tram from Hawthorns back to Birmingham. Think it's Moor Street. Then it's about a 10/15 mins walk to New Street station.
