    Our passing.......

Absolute massive win last night. I think we have used a lot of our luck, but boy do we deserve some after recent weeks.

But our passing needs to be better. Liverpool's one touch passing at times was sublime. They retain the ball so well. Our passing is awful at times. Even when no one is near one of our players.

We have some belief now. Long way to go still. A good start.
First game: Arsenal vs Queen's Park Rangers at Highbury, Saturday 17th November 1984.

It's not that they can't pass it because we've seen it - all about confidence which is very rare when you've only one one game in 25 years

Absouloutly spot on bluehoop, when in possesion we have to take more care
of the ball and pass to a much better standard.

At times it seems the ball is a hot potatoe and nobody seems to show
much composure and maybe just retaining possesion as opposed to trying
to force the issue,in other words the simple pass is the best option.

Having said that great result and a bit of confidence can work wonders

We're missing Ali Faurlin - and some confidence too

When we went 1-0 down last night there were definetely less players showing for the ball. I noticed Taarabt and Mackie having a go at players a couple of times for not giving them any options.

First 20 mins we made liverpool look like Barcelona - just short pass and go triangles from one end of the pitch to the other. I realise that playing that way is a hell of a lot harder than it looks but when we were under pressure we couldn't keep hold of it. Far too anxious to lump the ball forward and of course it just comes straight back. I was screaming for us just to keep it, even if it just means passing it along our back line for five minutes. Think we need to build up periods of possession - even dull, negative possession - before we should even think about attacking because mindless balls forward in the Prem don't work - well, except for our winner last night...

IF we soon happen to get a clean sheet, the confidence will most probably lift our play.
Not rocketscience, I know, but anyway.

we must retain the ball..let the oppo chase and fight for it. once we kept the ball and passed better, we made chances.

the 3 holding midfielders does not work. once 1 was subbed it gave more space for the others.
imagine faurlin with some time and space! how we miss him....
diakite did settle and we needed him to.

And I´m not sure Barton place is given in midfield from now on.

No dig at him, but just an observation I made last night.
                  IMO,Derry is Smarter,
Diakite is faster and stronger and Buzz is playing with more skill tecniqually.

                    great result? yes..great performance? no
we was owed some luck and we had it by the bucket load last night. If we perform that way on Saturday then we will lose. Our Midfield and Defence were shocking for periods of the game last night. As Tony Gale said on comms "defence so wide open you could drive a bus through it" :-)
Still on a high after last night and it truly was a fantastic result for us and a springboard to go on and save ourselves from relegation but our performance needs to improve and tighten up drastically and im sure MH is drumming this into the players. That luck we had last night we wont get every game.

                      Couldn't agree more!!

We've played far better than that and lost. We'll need to be a lot tighter at the back otherwise Sunderland could run riot.

old clichee - but really doesn't matter about the performance on the day - it's about the result.

The brutal truth is our passing has been crap for the last two seasons. Last season it didn't matter as much because in the championship possession often changes between both teams, and our game was more about breaking at speed and skill with the likes of Taarabt, Mackie and Routledge

At this level however, its of course a completely different story and is the reason why Brendan Rogers has done so much better than Warnock and Hughes. Successful PL teams never concede possession cheaply with unforced errors ATAF.

That fact, more than any other reason, is why we are where we are in the table.

I blame Anton, I find him to be one of the most negative footballers out there. Makes a huge difference when you have a CB who only knows how to hoof the ball long, he has to look for better outlets when under less pressure.

Can't argue with that mate. I'd take performances like last night every week if it means we take 3 points!!
