Really people, do you honestly think Bent and Defoe want a relegation battle or a chance to finish top four and Champions league football?? Hard choice that one..
No chance with that calibre of players yet, need to stay up and build a club that could attract the Bent's and Defoe's of this world.

Defoe plays for a club fighting for the title & Champions League qualification hasn't done him any favours has it? He wants out to play regular football. He will have the same problems at Liverpool imo.

2 guaranteed goal scorers who will start every single week. Good contract offered no doubt, playing for a good manager. Yes our league position is horrible but money talks & I want to see us in for at least one of these to show the fans we are serious.

As I already stated if we sign AJ I will except we are going down as his record is pretty poor.

I'm with you mate, but unless we pick up a win in the next round of the cup, then again at home to Wigan...I'm afraid to say that AJ is about the type of signing we'll be stuck with.

Somebody more eloquent than me pointed out the other day that you have to earn the right to buy top players, which I resent as I don't have a huge respect for any premiership footballers but it is probably true. If we were still around mid-table with Sparky Hughes installed as manager and brave talk from the owners anything might have been possible but that run since Stoke has cost us big time.

If I were Hughes I wd now focus on Santa Cruze - he is reportedly cheap, available and crucially scores goals. Maybe not quite a Defoe but a million times better than Johnson etc.

Ive know doubt they are seriously trying mate, but you cant force players to come if they dont want to.

Totally agree mate, very good chance of someone like Santa Cruz coming and working with Hughes again.

I'm not interested in "looking serious" or "showing our intent" (whatever that means) - I'm far more interested in making serious offers for players we have a better than 50/50 chance of signing. For me those are Alex/ Santa Cruze/ Hoillet/ Onouha and poss N'Zogbia.
