Granted he could become a great striker in the prem, but as it stands he plays in the SPL, which is worse than the Championship by a long way, and you have to bear in mind Both got 19 goals in the Championship last year. Add to that the fact he was a free transfer and i think that would've pushed his wages up a bit, although i wouldn't have thought they were as high as £40k?
