Have to confess to having some sympathy for Jay Bothroyd.

He has mainly been played up front on his own which is a thankless task or out of position. My feeling is he is a good out and out striker/target man. He is good in the air, holds the ball up well and whilst not exactly Brazilian standard is reasonably good on the ball with a good left peg. He is tailor made to play alongside the stereotypical smaller striker who can feed off him. A Defoe type player although we are probably dreaming if we think we will actually land Defoe himself!

Unfortunately he seems to being turned into a scapegoat by some sections of the fan base.

He has a battle at present to displace Heidar whose form this season is possibly the best of his career but would like to see him have a proper run as an out and out striker before passing judgement. Could be a real asset to us if played in the right position and with a decent strike partner.

I look at Graham, Holt, Morrison and other similar players and week in week out they run till they drop (and score goals which I know is a novelty) while our freebie jogs around like he owns the place. I think on occasions Adel has a better attitude than Jay does on the pitch, which is really saying something.

Moreover , I do not understand why any player is abused . Does it make them play better? Do they not realise that they may not be delivering?I knew when I played badly. Will not the manager tell them so? I don't accept the' I 've paid my money and I entitled .......... etc. ' We have all paid our money. All that abuse does is give a downward spiral to performance. If a player could up performance they would not need abuse from fans so to do. I know that many mangers do something like abuse but that is also likely to alienate the player. As long as he wears our shirt, he should be encouraged . If he does not do so with pride he should be dropped and off- loaded earliest.

When I see him being lazy jogging for the ball when he should be running and looking like he cant be bothered to jump high for the ball then questions need to be asked why he aint putting in maximum effort

I see it as embarrassing for him when he blames team mates for not many chances and tries to say 3 shots on goal aint opportunities

Thought he played ok sunday. Only one who can hold the ball up and bring Taraabt/SWP into play and feed feet. This worked very well at Wolves and against Newcastle. We do go long a lot and he is the best up top to control it and bring our ball players into play.

Guy is a hundred times more creative/skillful and has more quality than Mackie. But silly me Mackie runs a lot so he is a hero.

More often than not he doesn't even bother jumping with the centre half !!!

The problem is we do not have an attacking midfielder that can feed the strikers as Faurlin and Barton and defensive midfielders otherwise Bothroyd would not need to go back to collect and hold-up the ball. The only solution to him at the moment is Taarabt but Taarabt is a midfielder not a winger. Will Warnock sacrifice Baron/Faurlin for him?
