Getting the best out of SWP

Not sure what it is, but I've been disappointed with his overall contribution so far. It could be because of NW playing around with his position too much, or a general confidence thing affecting him due to lack of scoring. His shooting is nothing short of wild most of the time, but when he does get one right it's wrongly disallowed ffs.

I also wonder about the dressing room, and Barton's possible superior attitude and expectations, especially being captain. Barton is a dominant personality, and I can't imagine a player like SWP responding well to being bullied around, even if it is descibed as 'banter'.

Seems to me that Shaun is the kind of player that needs verbal motivation, and an arm round his shoulder to bring out the fight and determination in him, which I've not seen yet. Any other thoughts?

As I said before; he is very good when he is being played on the right wing.

I sincerly hope that Barton encourages his team-mate like a true captain should do.

Arrest me if I´m wrong, but isnt Barton and SWP pals?

If you ask me, I like them both.

Maybe it's NW's obsession with playing mackie in SWP's position. I think it's costing us points. We have nobody on the right like traore getting dangerous crosses in.

play him in the position he has played his whole career. on the right, surely its not rocket science. can outpace nearly every full backs then just needs a decent delivery for heidar or bothroyd to finish.

I will never understand how something can seem so simple to every fan but not to the manager. SWP isn't the type of player who needs a free role like Taarabt does, he is at his best out wide 1 on 1 where his pace is best used

what i don't get is why warno doesn't see it that way. mackie in that position is a different proposition, he will battle to the touchline and often win us a corner or a throw in...which is ok if we are trying to hold onto a slender 2-1 lead in the 80th minute....but surely swp booting in the aerial crosses from the same kind of positions all game long more often than not is going to make us far more likely to score....
                    come on you r's!

Play Mackie behind the striker, as he will chase down everything and he can make things happen for others, like the pass to Young at Stoke. Against Man Utd, defending from the front will be key, so we don't defend too deep.

                      - SWP - Barton - Faurlin - Traore -
                      --------------- Mackie --------------

I agree, but I think NW will always play Jamie, so it will be ....

Agree with you warnock just won't do what's right for the team he does what he thinks is right for certain individuals , if he's going to play mackie off the striker though for sun needs to e traore and swp on wings Jay and hh upfront
