The only player that gets consistent quality crosses in is Traore. SWP should stay on the right and do likewise. Bothroyd cannot function if he's not receiving service, he is very good at flickons but he needs a partner with him. You can't score headers without crosses. That's why JB looks inneffective. We're back to the same old, NW is not playing people in their natural positions.

It's not a question of who's definitively good or crap or of fitting into some abstract metric of "Prem Standard" - it's about how well the players are being utilised and whether they're being set up and coached to get the best out of them.

If we were trying to break into the top five or six then fine - some players are clearly not good enough over the course of a long season. However we've seen with our own eyes how fallible and average every other team in the league is outside of that bracket - your Villas and Newcastles - and we are not achieving that basic level of competency that should see us A/ compete with these sides and B/ at least give the very top sides a decent game. All of this is within the capability of the current squad IMO, or at least is less far away than we think.

Let's say for arguments sake come January 1st Paul Lambert splashes out and buys Mackie and Smith for Norwich. Are you going to laugh and say they're crap just like Morison and Holt and the rest of them? Or are you going to feel that slight twinge of worry?

I wouldn't write Mackey off. I can't stand Dirk Kite but have to say his energy/closing down really wobbled us yesterday. I think Mackie could do a similar job for us plus he can shoot straight, which luckily Koit seems unable to do.
