I've heard this rumour too that it involved. But I am more inclined to believe the car accident.

Also heard from a mate of mine from Birmingham that the whole car accident was a spin after he'd got himself in trouble with some not too nice locals who wanted to end his career by having a go at his knee caps.
Obviously unrelated to the crash from when he was a kid that resulted in his looks though.
