Bothroyd had a good game, he held it up well, won headers, put himself about and brought others in the game. The point of having him up top is to allow the midfield to score, Taarabt hit the post and SWP wasn't in the game much at all today IMO. Bothroyd is being used as a bit of a scapegoat at the moment, we cant play the short ball all the time so when we need to kick it up there theres no point having just campbell up top, Bothroyd is doing well at the moment and should start next game.

But I don't want him holding the ball up, I want him sticking it in the net!

yeah but DJ did that as well when he came on, did he not!!! I'm not hating on Jay but he is not going to get us 15 to 20 goals...

I'm agreeing he was poor today, I said one of his feet was always on the floor never got up

Disagree mate. Thought Villa came back into it second half for the majority (mainly through our own poor play & not them being good)

i thought they did play better than we did in the second half but I just saying when dj came on i thought we play better when jay went off

If that´s the case, I would love to see him play 90 minutes as soon as possible. He is the fox in the box we need in our team.

Yea I agree actually dave. Jay is very very handy for how we play but I never feel excited when he has the ball as I know he will either pass it or miss a shot whereas DJ is more potent & actually looks dangerous in & around the box.

I guarantee he won't start at Foolham though. Would love to be wrong.

He can do the same job as Jay? Leave off. Jay is 6'4 and will give most center halfs a run for their money, when kenny was forced to kick it they got the ball back easily due to them winning it in the air.

The point of a lone striker is to bring the attacking midfielders in to play so they can score, if your going to slate anyone why not SWP? He didn't play well at all today and should have been took off earlier than he was IMO. Barton didn't play that well today either, so how come people are calling for Jay to be dropped and not Barton or SWP?

I think we should be playing a forward who was 6th top PL goalscorer last season. I agree Barton and SWP didn't shine today.

Definitely Bothroyds worst game for us today! Campbell looked lively again when he came on and played a big part in the goal! Would be tempted to give Bothroyd one more chance tbh!

Said it before, but its a thankless task being the lone striker at home. 4-5-1 works away because home teams will push forward to win the game, but away teams look to defend a point and this was exactly what Villa did. Bothroyd wins his share in the air, something I doubt DJ could do for obvious height reasons, but JB isn't a quick as DJ in the box so needs support which isn't there, especially when there are 7 defenders around.
We should play 4-4-2 at home, drop Faurlin or Derry and play both DJ and JB up front.

Could see this working very well IMO. Our system does seem to lack potency up top, we never have many players in the box and the fac our lone striker is always dropping deep to hold ball up and laying it off means no cross can be instantly delivered as Jay wont be back in the box in time.

4-4-2 would be worth a shot, Jay and DJ, IMO, could prove a lethal partnership.
