I know people don't like hearing this but Celtic and Rangers ARE two of the biggest clubs in world football. Given that much is based around ex pat and some nasty sectarian lines (esp in South Africa and Australia) you can argue whether that is deserved but they are MASSIVE clubs. Only Man Utd in England have a bigger worldwide fanbase (Liverpool at a stretch) and then Madrid, Barca and possibly Juve can get near them for support and commercial opportunity. They are artificially held back due to the uncompetitive nature of the SPL and lack of TV money.

Which is the problem. They may be big clubs but the standard of football is total ponyOriginally posted by Nodge70 View PostI know people don't like hearing this but Celtic and Rangers ARE two of the biggest clubs in world football. I am not disputing the enormous size of Celtic and Rangers' fanbase - I am attacking Nodge's argument that because Kenny Miller played for both these clubs it makes him a better striker than DJ Campbell, who showed last season that he is capable of scoring regularly in the Premiership. Let's face it, the quality of Scottish football is poor and just because a player has achieved limited success in the SPL (Miller's done well at Rangers, but only scored 6 times in 33 appearances at Celtic) does not mean that he will be able to cope in the Premiership. Look at Kris Boyd last season - Rangers' all-time record goalscorer. His performances last season in the Championship were unremarkable to say the very least. In fact, during Miller's last spell in England with Derby County, he only netted 4 goals in 30 appearances.Originally posted by Ric-Roc View PostCeltic have an estimated support of 20 million worldwide due to their Irish heritage. I'd say that's pretty big.
I don't think anyone believes that DJ Campbell is going to challenge the likes of Rooney and Drogba, but he showed last season that he does have goalscoring ability and he would be a decent addition to the squad in my view.

Agree. Will say though with Kenny Miller you are pretty much guaranteed goals.
Kris Boyd the goal machine proved he was actually pretty sh!t once he came to England.
Forgetting players, leagues etc Celtic are only rivalled by a handful of clubs globally for fan base I honestly believe that.

You shouldn't find too many people to argue with on this one Ric - mind you we do have a few that might tryOriginally posted by Ric-Roc View PostAgree. Will say though with Kenny Miller you are pretty much guaranteed goals.

Yes, it really depends on what one believes constitutes a 'big' club. Should it be based on fanbase, success or purchasing power?Originally posted by NW9_RANGER View PostYeah Celtic has a huge fan base but what makes a club a BIG club? Is it fan base or more than that? If Celtic were in the premiership, they would eventually (once they replaced their whole squad lol) be up there with man u etc no doubt about it. But they ain't...
This year, Forbes magazine produced their annual list of the most 'valuable' football clubs - Celtic and Rangers are not even in the top twenty, beaten by the likes of Dortmund, Marseille and Athletico Madrid.

If Celtic especially but Rangers also were in the EPL they would need 3-4 years then would be up there. 60,000 a week & 1000's travelling to every away game they would do damage imo. But will never happen.
Sh!te league, sh!te standard, handful of good players but as a club MASSIVE.
