Who would replace Derry?

There are a number of positions which require strengthening but what worries me is who would replace Derry if required?

I'm not saying Mahon or Leigertwood would have been good enough and with Rowlands not given a squad number it seems to me that we don't really have anyone who can perform his role in the team.

Faurlin would be fine, very good engine, good tackler. But that might waste his creativity.
I suppose if someone like Bullard were signed, Faurlin could play deeper in the absence of Derry.
