Does Routledge Have A Newcastle Future – Probably Not

Wayne Routledge will return to Newcastle on Monday for pre-season training, after a good loan spell at QPR, when he scored 5 goals in 19 appearances for the Championship winners last season.

Wayne Routledge – likely to Championship club this summer

We thought Wayne would have become a QPR player by now, but for whatever reason the deal that QPR had put in place fell through, and it seems QPR are no longer interested in taking the winger, who was signed by Newcastle from QPR a short 18 months ago.

Wayne had an immediate impact when he arrived at Newcastle and helped the Magpies easily win the Championship a year ago, and also win automatic promotion by a massive 32 points.

But not for the first time, Wayne lost his way a bit last season in the Premier League, and manager Alan Pardew loaned him out to QPR in mid-January.

Wayne is a top player at the Championship level, and we have to think a move to a good club in England’s second division, would be a good career move for Wayne.

At the moment Nottingham Forest, Birmingham City and Cardiff City are all said to be interested in the player, but Routledge would like to have another shot at the Premier League.

That may be difficult on Tyneside, because Newcastle have already brought in one new winger in Frenchman Sylvain Marveaux, and a fit again Dan Gosling can also play out wide.

Newcastle are also likely to bring in one more winger before September rolls around, and we are hoping that could be former winger and now full French International Charles N’Zogbia.

Queens Park Rangers were going to pay £1.5M for Wayne but the deal fell through, and we would think Chris Hughton could definitely take him to Birmingham.

Alan Pardew talked to the local press about Wayne today:

“Has Wayne a future here? “Wayne is still a Newcastle United player and he is under contract.”

“He comes back on Monday. After that we will just have to go from there.”

We don’t blame Wayne for wanting to stay at Newcastle, but we think a move to a good Championship club, could be a really good move for the London-born winger.

And he will get regular games in the Championship, and also will be a top player out there on the right wing.
