Would you need to see Lionel Messi live to realise he's the best player on the planet or is the coverage of football these days sufficient enough to see enough of players to make a fair assessment?

No he's no Rio or John Terry but as mentioned 362 times already is streets ahead of the 4 centre backs we currently employ.

I don't know why I'm choosing to get involved but Emille Heskey played more time for England Jimmy Greaves and Geoff Hurst it doesn't make Heskey a better footballer.

Are you saying to be good, you need to have played or just be linked to a PL team? as until Blackpool played in the PL last season Adam, Vaughn and DJ were going nowhere fast but are now and even Ian Evatt done well and got noticed.
