Would this midfield and attack make us competitive

    Bullard Faurlin

    routledge Taarabt Dos Santos

    Bothroyd

Now if we had a midfield and front line like this, would it be enough to beat the likes of swansea, west brom, norwhich, wigan, wolves, fulham.....

Also out of interest how short are we defensivley in your opinion. We were supurb at the back last year with 25 clean sheets... do we need a new defence and out of our back four from last year who do you think could make the step up????

looks good, but doubt Jimmy would want to play holding.

Cheers for pointing that out mate.... i thought they were all signed up

I used the word 'if' as i believe the players i have put in the team are all realistic targets, not definites but realistic and to gauge people thoughts that if we did have a set up like that do they think we can compete against the weaker side in the premiership.

I apologise Maidstone for trying to be a smart ass. I didn't see the if! I think that midfield would do us fine as long as they scored a few. Think we need a centre half and full backs

I think we need a class centre-back as much as we need a striker. Even if a CB isn't such a "sexy" signing.
And I do have total respect for what our boys at the back did last season.

Agreed Robbo. Don't think his knee would be up to all the tackling he'd have to do in the Derry role. Maybe AF could do it but would that take away from his game?
Definite lack of pace at the back, need someone like Kyle Walker, who even when he did get caught out had the pace to get back and cover

Think that attacking part of the team would be a long way towards being competitive. Think we would need another decent-ish striker to challenge Bothroyd for his place and also another midfielder who would be prepared to play the holding role - Bowyer, Watson?

That team would win the league...

In all seriousness, a class centre back or two and two quick full-backs and thats a mid-table team. Also all Bullard did for Ipswich was pick the ball up off the back four and spread balls everywhere, think it will be either or Bullard/Faurlin and Derry/ another.
15 years in the wilderness will be a distant memory come Sunday 8th May 2011.

Dos Santos and Taarabt in the same team would mean us getting absolutely battered every week.

Agreed...we're going to need to sign a lot more firepower than just Bothroyd.

I can see this being the line up

                        ------- Derry ------- Faurlin -------
                        Routledge -- Bullard/Buzz -- Smith

That would be shocking. CMS is NOT a target man, in fact if he signs I see him replacing Smith with CMS and Routledge swapping places.

Rather have Mackie in our starting 11 than CMS
