Queens Park Rangers want experienced Upson
    11:30 AM 11 May, 2011
Matthew Upson is a major target for Queens Park Rangers Football Club.

Now their promotion to the Premier League has been confirmed, Rangers are in the process of identifying targets for the summer transfer window.

Neil Warnock is eager to ensure the Londoners remain in the top-flight for some time, and he is keen to add some experienced players to his squad.

Fans FC understand the Loftus Road boss has set his sights on a move for Upson, who will be available on a free transfer when his contract expires at West Ham United.

The 32-year-old looks certain to leave Upton Park if the Hammers are relegated, and he is likely to be tempted to move across London and link up with Warnock.

On Saturday I slated Bowyer, we we're linked with him a few days later, today I slated Upson to a friend saying how he was the main reason England lost the game against Germany and now we're linked with him. I hate Ronaldo too by the way :drunk:

Seriously though he is the kind of centre back I want to sign but needs help with Keith Curle. Naughton, Upson & Bougerra please
    Under Les Ferdinand:
Luke Freeman, top assists in the league: 4million
Alex Smithies, great goalie for this club: 3,5million
Charlie Austin, 19 Premier League goals: 4million
Jack Robinson: Contract ran out, left for free
    And many more mistakes

Would be a realistic target with plenty of experience

Not all about pace. Not sure who your expecting? Upson is probably unrealistic, can see quite a bit of interest in him. 21 caps for England and he was at the world cup.

See my other thread. I'm not expecting Lucio to turn up. But Upson just doesn't fill me with confidence I'm afraid.

The one big common denominator in our defence is lack of pace, Upson would not change that.
                  They seek him here.................

What is this obsession that all CBs MUST be quick?

I guess you're right about pace and now i've changed my mind again no thanks. IF he does sign he will get support though

Bobby Moore had various other attributes that Upson doesn't have that allowed him to get away without being quick.

You can't compare the two, just because neither are fast.

The point I was trying to make is any lack of pace can be compensated for by being able to read the game well. It is not an absolute pre-requisite that all good CBs have to have pace. There's countless other examples.

It helps if you have at least one who is fast...ie walker got us out of trouble a few times.

As much as i hate him..John Terry is not the quickest, but a good reader of the game.

I'm assuming the likes of Upson is the sort of player we shall be linked to rumour wise....Was one of the reasons at the World Cup that England looked so exposed at the back.

Wouldn't mid that Collison lad if we went down...or maybe Gabbidon .

                              Bobby Moore or Mathew Upson....
