Do you not agree with w12 though pete that this is QPR's day not Englands. We mustn't forget what we are really there to celebrate. Yes take some flags whatever but all these english songs will make me cringe. Sing QPR songs.

Are you not English ? If you are be proud of it. I guess some people just get embarrassed, and it's not about being asociated with the far right. Remember Euro 96, all those English flags being waved at Wembley, made me feel very proud.

I think saying the English dont care about St George's Day is wrong. I know plenty of English who to them St George's day is one of the main days of the year. They might not be proud of how the country has turned out but they are proud of their heritage. Its people like Gordon Brown and his mob, the doo-gooders and Human right brigades who try their best to make you as unpatriotic as possible. Its not racist to support your country, wear your colours and be proud of where you were born.
Look at the Americans, they display their flag all over their country, wheres over here we feel we cant because it might offend foreigners. Shocking.

Wish we celebrated St Georges Day in the same way the Irish do with St Patricks Day.

Reality is we don't, because you always get some far left winger going to councils to get bans on flags, in other cases its seen as ovehyping our heritage, by the very people who can celebrate there own religion or historic backgrounds, in some cases every week of the year without anyone battoning an eyelid

Nobody stops anyone feeling proud of being English. It's a shame that the Union Jack and to some extent the St Georges flag has been hijacked by certain far-right idiots, but the prevalence of the St George's flag during football tournaments has reversed that somewhat over the last decade.

To be honest reading back Big Dave's comments he does have a good point and he is a very highly respected poster. I guess I have overreacted a little, although I still think its more of a day for QPR and we need to balance st georges day with the real reason we are celebrating.

I should add that I'm not unpatriotic - I defend both my countries if they are slagged off (unless it's QPR fans having a go at Cardiff fans, then I join in ) - I just have no particular desire to wave a flag around and shove it in people's faces.

Coming from a mixed race background one side of my family do always celebrate St Georges day. I don't why he is the patron saint? He was not English. The birthday of Winston Churchill should be celebrated more (a real English hero.)

So why not take the flag away from them then?

Here in Norway we celebrate our independence day on the 17. of May With all sorts of pride really.This relates back to the 17. of May 1814 when we kind of parted company with the danes:yush:(short version)

The IRISH celebrate st patricks day but I have lived in england long enough to see no one cares about St georges day. Are we doing it just to wind up the welsh or do you care?

I support QPR and England, in that order.
