Furlong got us nearly 20 goals in this league a few years ago ... when he was 36/37

So, we run around for 80 minutes not scoring, then bring on Phillips to win the game for us ? Utter tosh. The system we play means we need a player of simular style to mackie, only of better quality.Comment

Actually at Burnley it wasn't a killer touch because we didn't really test their keeper. We needed someone who was willing to run in on a corner instead of standing there. Some of Adel's crosses were very good but no-one bothered going for the header - making the crosses looks shite.
Plus, the through balls from midfield lacked too.Comment

The difference is, Adel actually starts the game and plays at least 70-90 minutes depending on how the game pans out. Phillips will only come on for the last 15 minutes, or there about. So do we sacrafice getting a striker in who can actually give us 90 minutes, for someone who comes on late in the game and may or may not score ?Comment

I would sacrifice a striker for Phillips. He is the goalgetter we haven't had for so many years. What do we have to bring in to the game today? What gamewinner do we have in our squad to turn chances into goals?
So if we can't score for the first 70minutes we should keep on bringing in Clarke or maybe Onesize?? If Miller or Benni comes in then we would have HH and Hulse to turn things around?? Well on Saturday I felt little hope when it comes to us making changes late in the game. At his level few players are more proven and better than Phillips to find the net inside the box.Comment

If he can find the back of the net that often, Birmingham wouldn't put up with that ineffective Cameron Jerome.Comment

Maybe a fox in the box type player of Phillips experience is required. Our 2 target men (Hulse/Helguson) have managed one header between them all season. Keep the ball on the deck with little through balls from Taarabt/Smith/Faurlin and Phillips would be in his element.Comment

Thank you
May I direct you to the player who has more assists than any player in the Championship. It's about movement at the end of the day and since Taarabt has been at the club we have not seen a striker capable of that.
Phillips is the sort of player that only needs one touch, its why he has been so prolific in his career. A striker with quick feet in the box capable of playing of the last man, age doesn't matter. You may not get 90 mins out of him but we don't get 90 mins out of Taarabt either.Last edited by The White City General; 17-01-2011, 06:22 PM.Comment
