    Very Interesting Newcastle Last January...

6 signings, no last minute stuff, and the majority for less than £1m. Mike Williamson, Danny Simpson, Wayne Routledge, Fitz Hall, Patrick van Aanholt and Leon Best all arrived at Newcastle in January 2010 transfer window. 4 permanent signings, two loan deals

Good point. Imagine if they had waited until they got promoted what those players would have cost. We need to spend now to ensure we don't pay over the odds when/if we get promoted. As it looks our squad is too small and too unbalanced as it stands.

Interesting. Any idea how many points they had after 25 matches?

Just shows that even with the squad they had, they felt they needed to improve. We should be doing the same.

Simpson was already on loan. Williamson was a good signing, and Routledge was very effective for the rest of the Championship campaign but has struggled in the Premiership. The other three played little to no part.

Possibly you could argue the new faces might have given the squad a psychological boost, but it's still only the sort of value for money that a club with parachute payments could contemplate.
