Skysports.com understands Reading have made an offer for Swindon hot-shot Charlie Austin.

Prolific striker Austin is one of the most sought-after players in this month's transfer window following his goalscoring exploits at the County Ground.

The 21-year-old has netted a stunning 37 goals in 53 games for Swindon since arriving from Poole Town, attracting interest from a number of clubs higher up the pecking order.

Hull City have already seen a bid for Austin rejected this month and now Reading are the latest club to express an interest in the player.

The Royals are looking to bolster their attacking options and they see Austin as the man who could boost their promotion bid.

Swindon are reluctant to lose their prize asset this month, but they could face a battle to keep hold of him with more clubs expected to test their resolve before the transfer window slams shut

Buying a player is always a gamble almost 100% of the time.You don't know if he will settle at the club,area,country etc..

But if you don't take the gamble you will all be saying 'what if' if he turns out to be a diamond.

Top strikers don't always start as youth players at Liverpool.

Austin is a hot topic on several club forums, who also mention QPR as not only 'in the running' to sign him, but favorites. Forums for Swindon, Hull, Celtic, Hull, Reading, Forest, Birmingham, Southampton, all quote QPR wanting him.

Do our owners want us promoted?,i hope so ,this january will tell alot,and YES Austin is exactly the type of player we should be signing and unlike alot of premiership players he is very getable,but our owners will have to spend decent money on a player eventually and remember the most they have spent since NW took over is £600,000 on Taarabt,and a total of £2 million alltoghter,hardly a fortune.
