    Quote from official..

"They've probably got a better forward line than us at the moment, but we're a hardworking team and we've got players of real quality"

At the moment?? Is he suggesting a busy January?

We need to strengthen in Jan. Infact we must, the other teams at the top look like they will by what I've been reading. We need to keep ahead of the pack.

Yea I picked up on that quote today & thought the very same as you.

I really feel if we are still in the mix at the top come Jan (which we will be) then Warnock will be heavily backed.

After bidding & nearly getting Jon Walters for £2.5M I think big money will be spent. Can't wait.

        Come on you R'ssss

doesnt he mean more in terms of them having a premiership striker they have been briefly lent? Who knows - I wouldn't hold your breath for a big name striker in Jan.

Not that I want to decry NW's amazing achievement so far but I do get the impression that we are punching above our weight and that we are determined to get up on the relative cheap... hope am wrong and a lavish spending spree ensues come the NY...

Although i would welcome a couple of additions if right for the squad, spending for the sake of it can also do more harm than good if careless.

Someone said above we are punching above our weight right now, and that could well be true, and the reason is we have a fantastic team spirit and ethic and never say die attitude. I just worry that if we bring in too many faces, no doubt on high (maybe higher than others) wages, it could upset the dressing room a bit and be counter productive.

Just ask any Newcastle fan if they think, with hindsight, "stengthening" their squad in January with Asprilla when 12 points clear at the top was a good decision....

That's a very good point! I think we just have to put our trust in NW, he knows what we have and what we might possibly need! He also has a good gauge on team spirit and things like that!

This will be our most important window ever,we need to bring in the right players which must include a quality finisher

I disagree the January window of three seasons ago was far more important when we brought the likes of Connolly, Vine, Agyemang in as at the time we were destined for relegation. This time round we have already shown that we have the capabilities to beat some of the best teams in the league. If we strengthen then great but if we don't then it won't be the be all and end all whereas the same couldn't have been said about that window.

I still believe we need a fox in the box type player.

Eventually even Warnock needs to have a plan B and even C to chose from.
Especially when the team around us do strenghten their squads from here to eternity come January.

                      My view only though.

True, but it didn't do them any harm last January when they signed Routledge Hall & Williamson. Possibly one or two more were added.

Indeed they also signed Danny Simpson and Leon Best, which means they signed 3 defenders.

Strangely though between match 1 and January 1st they conceded just 14 in 24 matches but conceded 21 in 22 matches after January 1st - long season or just bad defensive signings in January?

if we are to sign anybody else we need to make sure they are better than our starting XI we now have a good depth in quality for our squad.

my concerns although our defence is water tight is at centerback. not overly confident with hall as backup. would prefer another cb who can play lb to cover for hill.

and obviously that nippy striker the alternative to hulse and helguson.

Don't like disagreeing with you SirS, not least as you will do me on something in return, but Leon aint a defender. His goal tally might suggest that but he isn't meant to be!

As for the pre and post Christmas Newcastle thing, I think they started playing differently - more attacking after the New Year. Andy Carroll, for example, if I remember right, only scored a few (4?) before Christmas and then something like 15 afterward. They were opened up more - presumably as they were more confident. Harewood was ****ed as well so they had to change shape. Routledge was doing a job for them when they'd been weak on that side prior.

The lesson to be learnt, if you ask me, is nothing is won by Christmas and a critical look a personnel is needed to bring in people while you can. We need a striker. And Buz back. To help us in the long long run in.
