Helguson has a proven record at the highest level. There was a degree of talent to work with. I don't think that can be said of Borrowdale. If nothing else, his lack of height would alter and impinge our entire defensive strategies.

Few people have said that he looks leaner and fitter. He will need to be as I've never seen him get close enough to a winger to cut out a cross.

To be fair to The Bollard, he is a good footballer. Good first touch, very good passer etc..
The problem with him is/was his shocking lack of desire and reaction to stop crosses and engage his man. Really flimsy defender last season at times.

Maybe after a few months of training sessions with Warnock, he might have improved that side of his game?... because Warnock has said many times while commenting on other games that he detests timid defenders who back off and allow crosses to come into our box. It's his pet hate.

I'm not convinced about that, but it's more of an attitude/aggresion thing with Borrowdale, rather than a lack of ability.
