  • What a discrace QPR

Instead of highlighting a collection for Children in Need at this time of the year they should have made it a special Poppy Day to raise funds for our brave present and past Servicemen and Women

I don't doubt that some of the cash will help needy British Charities and will also revive a singers career and celebrities will be giving up their own time blah blah blah but why the hell don't we look after our wounded troops first and those who are suffering financial hardship since leaving the Forces

Pudsey the Bear - the famous Children In Need mascot - and his best friend Blush will be at Loftus Road on Saturday afternoon.

Please dig deep and give generously to this worthy cause.

    About Children In Need...

BBC Children in Need is the BBC's UK corporate charity.

The annual telethon is one of the highs of the BBC calendar and plenty of activity takes place all across the UK around this time to help raise those crucial pennies to help improve the lives of disadvantaged children and young people across the UK.

However, Pudsey is busy all year round helping to make sure the money you raise goes to those who need it the most.

Yep that was a bit harsh I agree but as someone who regularly stands rattling a collection tin to sell Poppies most evenings after a hard days graft it grinds my gears to see the BBC get even more help in promoting their charity which lets face it is just a promotional exercise for their flagging stars to revive their popularity

I do find Children In Need a crashing bore- so called celebs giving us third rate " entertainment" taking up copious hours of tv time. Not to mention ****s dressing up and rattling their buckets and being oh so self congratulatory. If they want to donate, do so quietly and with minimal fuss!:rage:
The poppy appeal should be the one to give too, quite agree!

There is a much greater focus on charities supporting the armed forces now though, throughout the year (Help For Heroes has really come to the fore recently) , so it almost waters down the focus on the The British legion's traditional efforts at this time of year.

Needy children are always going to be more emotive than injured soldiers, rightly or wrongly. However, I'm sure QPR along with all clubs, won't be ignoring the armed forces over the next week or so. Football clubs have been very good at raising the profile in recent years (poppies embroidered into shirts etc)

Both should be funded by the Govt properly.

You call it charity, some would say it's indirect taxation and every penny collected reduces the Govts contribution in these areas.

I will still contribute to Help For Heroes, children in need can go do one!!

Surely both needy children and injured soldiers are worthy of help?

Why does it have to be one or the other?

And why does the manner in which the money is raised in matter?

Thread leaves a bit of a bitter taste to be honest. I'm happy to see the club support any charity and a "My charity is better than yours" attitude doesn't really sit well.

                  Spot on mate.

Oh look at us how good we are going to Africa to build a well (that was built a month before we arrived) F*ck right off..

And don't get me started on that ancient old tw@t wogan :yush:

What I will say though is big respect to the REAL people out there who you never see who raise money all year round for those in need. Not celebs clearing their conscience.

                    Unbelievable.

I could not care less how the BBC promote the charity, or if it helps some minor celebrities careers along the way, or if it's a big ego boost for corporate BBC.

They raise millions of pounds for CHILDREN IN NEED.

Isn't that the important factor here?

Yes you are right its most def about raising money for those in need, just like many many thousands do EVERY SINGLE DAY anonymously.

If you want to sit here & say its not an ego boost for most of these celebs I would say you are naive personally. What do they do for the other 364 days of the year?
