Previous seasons after 8 games

For three years out of the last six, the top two after 8 games finished first and second.

In the remaining three years, in two of the seasons, one of the top two after 8 games got automatic promotion, so going on history in the past 6 years we now have nearly a 70% chance of finishing first or second.

However, none of the leaders after 8 games had the points tally and goal difference totals we have.

Well they say you can't judge till 10 games. Thing is, even if we lose the next two games by several clear goals we will still be top and that takes us to 10 games!
