Completely different circumstances as I said yesterday. Same equally applicable to West Ham and Blackpool who had international transfers held up.

The Van der Vaart transfer was agreed at 17:57 BST - fax from Madrid used as part of the clearing process at the PL.

Those three transfers that took in 7 different countries are slightly different than a phone call/fax or email up the M1 or down the A3.

I struggle to believe that Sheila Marson would have let it boil down to this. No chain on the Hulse deal and the Smith deal only involved Pompey, Stoke and Eidur Gudjohnsen and his agent...

I suspect completing the transfer of any football player is never straight forward. Regarding Hulse, I wonder if Derby wanted to complete the loan deal for that lad from Spain first...just a thought!
