I disagree. Very good player and right now a front line of Kitson, Nugent and Smith is far better than what we have but when you've only got 5 defenders on your books including two on loan, a kid who hasn't played yet, a midfielder who became a defender and another with just 6 first team appearances what is the point of selling off your defenders? They might score 3 or 4 but no point if they concede half a dozen.

How can Pompey afford Kitson's wages??

In the same way they could afford Wilson's wages. The assumption is that because Kitson is a striker that he'd earn more than a defender would but this is Portsmouth who paid silly money to get players to play for them and therefore I don't believe the assumption is right in this case. I wouldn't be surprised if I found out that Wilson was on the same if not more money that Kitson - especially if they are prepared to keep paying £80k pw to Utaka.

Reality is with their financial state and with 2-3 clubs after Wilson that he was going to leave anyway, so it is a good deal for them getting 2 good CCC players and £3m in the bank.

WBA offered £3m with no players, so to get 2 players of Kitson and Lawrence's calibre is very good. Im sure they can get 1-2 defenders in on loan over the next few weeks.

True but it's a bit like Pete's thread that it's only a good deal when it comes off and when they can bring other defenders in.

Do Pompey and Stoke have a footballing agreement of some sort as Pompey already have two Stoke players on loan and now this deal???

Well im guessing the deal will go through today, so we will find out the ins and outs of the transfer. But £3m plus two quality CCC players is a good deal IMO, but of course they need to sign a couple more defenders in their ranks.

Maybe the chairman of the two clubs are friends as they seem to do alot of business, Begovic from Pompey to Stoke for example.

                        Forgot about Begovic.

They do need the players. As of yet they've not been able to fill the bench in a match this season. Lawrence is a very good player and so is Kitson so as you say it is a good deal but they have to bring in players and not just loanees. They've got two in the defence as it is any more becomes dangerous.

Maybe we can swap Borrowdale for Tommy Smith!

                            If only.

As a front six it doesn't look to bad:

                            Nugent--Kitson
                            Lawrence---Mullins--Brown--Smith

Potentially Kanu if he agrees a deal and with Utaka and Hughes they have strength up front.

SSN have just said that West Ham have bid for Wilson, so maybe the deal with Stoke could be scuppered.
