He always struck me as being really flukey for the season he was in the Championship which judging by his Premiership record was probably the case, maybe he would score consistantly at this level but i'm not convinced!Originally posted by qprsouth View Postscored 29 of his 50 odd league goals in div 1 ....so in 2 seasons he scored 20 goals for swansea in all competitions...He aint bad but why only 1 goal for wigan???

I suspect he'd do very well for us. Over the last few seasons creating chances hasn't been an issue, putting them in the net has. 45 goals in 90 games for Swansea is a phenomenal return even if half of those were in League 1. From seeing him when he was at Swansea, he didn't seem to have that much pace, but get the ball to him in the box and he had the knack of creating space to score. Its all dried up at Wigan, but maybe like a lot of top Championship strikers he's not good enough to cut it against Premiership defenders.Originally posted by Stanley76 View PostScotland had a fantastic record for Swansea - averaged 1 goal in 2. Hope its true.
The game is getting us out of the Championship, I'm not sure that investing £5M or whatever ridiculous figure Cardiff would want for Chopra would represent any sort of value, for a striker who has proved he can't cut it in the Premiership. The only sort of striker we will get who might also make it in the Premiership is a young unproven one with potential. Better picking up old lags who have proved their worth in the Championship at reasonable fees to try to get us up.

Jason Scotland is 31. Likely on similar wages to Jason Roberts. I think we would be much better off buying someone younger with upside. he's also only 5 ft 8, so once his pace goes, what's he got left?
Luke Varney has a fair record at this level, is 27, and will command lower wages that someone stepping down from the prem.
Jay Simpson, based on last year's form, looks a good bet, and still has some upside. if he got 12 goals last year, surely one could expect 15+ this year.Last edited by Hoopla73; 14-08-2010, 10:45 AM.
