Maybe the first group games were too cagey but the second group ones need to liven up a bit with teams needing to win - and if the SA vs. Uruguayis anything to go by then we could be in for far more excitement.
    lets hope you're correct............

Thought today was better, Chile went about it the right away and should have got more goals, Spain looked pretty but got beaten by the Swiss and then SA Uruguay, Uruguay looked a decent side, SA looked to have no cutting edge at all!

I think the ball has a lot to do with it. It deviates all over the place, players can't keep it down. I've watched all of the games so far and I don't think a goalie has had to make a save from a direct free kick. It also looks a bit too bouncy, but maybe that's the pitches.

Yes, the ball obviously has something to do with it, as does the lack of a match atmosphere above those pesky vuvuzelas, but football at the top level is now about avoiding defeat rather than going for the win.

As the 'lesser nations' start getting players in top leagues (eg Ivory Coast), they will become indoctrinated into this 'no lose' policy; there are now very few gung ho nations around, which is where real enjoyment has come from previously.

Just ANOTHER thing wrong with modern football - I am such a Grumpy Old Man these days...

                  ball stories are rubbish imho.
forlan didnt look like it was an alien object to him when he smashed in that penalty.
tho it does amaze me how they change a ball at the biggest tourno in the world. just gives people shite to whinge about whne they lose. (on penalties moost probably)

The ball is fine over short distances. Forlan's first goal took a deflection and would have gone over the bar.
