When does the transfer window open officially ?

I was of the opinion it was June 1st

I know players out of contract can be signed anytime but I believe Mackie had a year left on his contract.

I anyone can shed some light on it !!

I guess the contract starts June 1st, but it can be announced before that day?

I'm pretty sure it's 1st July. Contracts usually run to this date.

Players can be bought anytime after the season ends (play-offs excluded). Soon to be out of contract players can be signed on pre-contracts at the same time, but these are not official until after their old one expires on 30th June.

Mackie was still under contract for another season, and has been signed now because QPR agreed a fee with Plymouth.

QPR can also sign players such as Hooper, Clyne, Ambrose & Speroni etc now if they agree a fee, but Clint Hill cannot be confirmed until July (although he can sign a pre contract agreement now).
