    Loftus Road Turf

Has any 1 ever took some turf at the end of the season when new turf was gunna be layed in the close season? And is it still alive?

My uncle got a chunk about 15 years ago and its still as green as when it was first layed. It takes pride in a pot in his garden lucky sod.

I was gonna take some of the plastic pitch up when they ripped it out, but felt it would be cruel as I wouldn't have the time for the upkeep.

Didn't everyone get some at the end of 80-81 season? before the plastic pitch was laid.

Mine is in a back garden in Kingston.

Yes, we got a 1 foot by 1 foot lump of turf that day -- don't think there was any pitch left afterwards!

I didn't remember any shovels for digging up the turf though? I can't remember how I got mine, but remember proudly laying it in the back garden!

Then Omniturf, them were the days........

My dad dug our bit up with his pocket knife -- which in those days, he carried around with him, to all the matches!!! (to clean his pipe out with, nothing hooliganistic!)
Took a bit of time, but he did a good job getting the turf up.

I got a piece of the plastic pitch.

It cost a fiver and came in a nice grey folder detailing all the signifcant occassions on it.

Barry McGuigan's world championship fight being one of them
