  • Assessing the Rumours and My Thoughts

Obviously its all talk and rumour at the moment but the rumours coming from Jeffro and now Rieger suggest that we could potentially sign some real quality.

Clyne is the best right back in the division, Henderson and Maynard are banging them in left, right and centre and Reo-Coker would make a brilliant skipper for us and alongside Faurlin we could potentially have the best central midfield in the division.

These aren't rumours but just my mutterings but with Van Aanholt and Bertrand still unlikely to get a look in at Chelsea and with Spurr out of contract at Sheff Wed this summer there are some very good left backs available. Posh are on their way down so Tommy Williams may once again become available and there is always Cruise at Arsenal who is way down the pecking order.

The likes of Hooper, Hayes, Boyd and McLean won't want to play League One football and with the Saints not coming up Barnard and Lallana (ok, yes he is a midfielder) are too good for League One. If Swindon don't come up then Austin is a must. Who is another good Swindon forward like Simon Cox last season. At only 20 he is one for the future but with a need for depth in every department he'd be very good for us and vice versa. Hulse isn't getting any younger but like Henderson he does the dirty work, leads the line, uses his strength and chips in with goals. The type of player we need for a rainy Tuesday in Doncaster when the more creative players aren't "feeling it".

As for keepers the two Joe's, Lewis (Posh) and Murphy (Scunny) would both make for excellent additions. Alternatively Westwood or Speroni would be solid and commanding. Either way 1 of the 4 and an unwanted youngster from the Premiership (Heaton or Alnwick) as a deputy would make a good keeping department. Connolly would be used as just a central defender along with Gorkss and if the club were really serious they would go after St Ledger or even Cranie who is having a very good season.

Get rid of the likes of Helguson, Pellicori, Hall and Agyemang once and for all. Send all of the loanees back but try to sign Taraabt (highly unlikely) and Simpson and start July with just 16 or 17 names before bringing in some real quality. Warnock doesn't want a squad of 30-35 he'll do much better with 23-25 players.

Agree 100%, if we could get some of those names we would be well on our way.
