Just How Good Was Dave Thomas?

I know its in the past - but just watched the Big match DVD about QPR matches in the 70s and 80s.

Although I grew up watching the likes of Stan Bowles etc....I forgot how good Dave Thomas was.Typical old fashioned winger with pace.Add Don Givens to that who only cost £30,000.Also what a couple of great full backs Gillard and Clement were.

Just thought i'd share as i didn't go to bed till really late last night after work and sat up and watched this DVD

Dave Thomas was class simples

Dave was superb, part of the greatest ever Rangers team. If my memory is right didn't we have 5 England Internationals at that time? Francis, Bowles, Gillard, Thomas, Parles and Mason in the Scotland squad! Happy Days!!

Dave Thomas rightly a QPR legend, met him away at Southampton a few years ago, happy to share many memories of that 70's side.
Although a superb winger, even he could, on occasion, cross so badly that the ball went out for a throw on the opposite side of the pitch!
Settled in very quickly in the 73 promotion side after being signed following Martyn Busby breaking his leg at Fulham, in my opinion one of THE best signings we ever made.
Bags of energy, when he was on form he was almost unplayable, even difficult to kick him! Did well at Everton, too, Latchford must have been delighted when they got him. We never really had that sort of Centre-Forward, Don Givens was more pace than anything.
Dave Thomas also weighed in quite a few goals. Superb player.

Brilliant player, being a winger myself when i played, he was my hero, although the whole team back then was class.
Pity wingers are not used in the same way nowadays, 5 men up front being
7.Thomas (Right Wing) 8.Francis (Inside Right) 9.Masson (Centre Forward) 10.Bowles (Inside Left) 11.Givens (Left Wing) in a 2-3-5 formation.
It was good to watch although couldn't see it working now.

What about Dave Clements he got 5 England caps as well

I remember his debut against Sunderland, he looked good from the outset.

Without doubt the best winger this club has had in my time watching them.

Dave Thomas was one of my all time favourite QPR players, a legend of the first order, class.

Don't worry mate. I think most of us got it.

Dave Thomas was my favourite player as a kid. Doubtless, it won't be long before some boring poster says he used to play with no shinpads and his socks rolled down.....

Yep, he teaches at a school near Chichester. He was my hero, always wore number 7 in any team I ever played in. Tracked him down and spoke to his wife last year, hoping to arrange to go down for a glass of wine or two at some point. He is a legend....DTIsGod

while we wander down memory lane and that great 70's side, I got to tell you how good Phil Parkes was, simply streets ahead of anything we've had between the posts since, remember he went for what then was a world record fee for a goalie
