    Now this will test the historians...

    ...when was the last time QPR poached a manager like this rather than took one off the dole? I exclude non-jobs like Dubai telly punditry that I think Dowie was doing and even the youth coaching role Sousa had with Portugal: I'm talking about fully fledged managers who have been in charge of another club at the point that we have come along, taken them and been forced to pay compensation?

            Yes, it has to be Terry Venables, again from Crystal Palace. Let's hope history repeats itself, as regards the what followed from Terry's arrival. If memory serves, he steered us first to safety in the old division two, then in his first full season took us to an FA cup final, then in his second full season got us promoted as champions from division two to division one, and in his third full season had us finish as London's top club. Tel.

            Then he pissed off to Barcelona.
