    Emmerson Sutton

According to reports he’s been right on the outer edges of making the first team bench recently.

The standout features of his game despite being selected out wide have been his composure when presented with goal scoring opportunities.

The last goal which completed his hat trick in yesterdays DS match certainly showed he’s more than capable to step up and replace injured Smyth’s place in the first team squad.

He's been featuring in dispatches for at least 2 years. Thing is, only time I saw him was in that Carabao Cup fiasco at Plymouth last season where he looked like a junior school kid who'd wandered into a man's game.
Maybe he's filled out a bit and I'm not in any way writing him off, but 12 months ago he looked well off the pace against gnarly 3rd tier opposition. He'll be 20 soon so something needs to click this season or next.

Sutton was only given 45mins in that Plymouth Cup game so very difficult to judge him fairly amongst at least 8 other DS team members against seasoned players that Plymouth put out.

Jurgen Klopp said “ some players take longer to mature , here at Liverpool we have a cut of point set a 24 years old”

I watched Sutton also score another hatrick 2 years ago during an U18 Cup game against Arsenal which went to a penalty shoot out as the match finished 3-3 after extra time.

My point is Sutton is very composed in goalscoring areas which is in complete contrast to the currently injured Paul Smyth.

At the rate our first-teamers are falling like flies, I think we'll be forced into putting out the whole DS squad soon!

Leon Scarlett looks to be ahead of Sutton this season. Three years younger. Chance to make it at QPR has gone for Sutton. Too many players in front of him.

Didn’t Bennie seem at least as likely?

Bennie has transitioned into the 1st team, played plenty of minutes and is continuing his development on loan in a decent standard League. He could come back and put Vale under severe pressure for the shirt.
In that sense, Bennie is miles ahead of Sutton despite being only 6 months older than him.

So much crap information is spouted on here. Scarlett is 17 and Sutton is 19, Scarlett has had just one promising 40 mins as sub at WBA.

Isleworth116 stating that Sutton is 3 yrs older than Scarlett and Sutton finished at the club at 19 because he’s got the likes of 2 left feet Paul Smyth ahead of him.

Abseits predicting that Daniel Bennie is likely to come back and dislodge Vale, have you actually taken the time to find out what Dundee Utd fans think of him

I saw a post from one of their fans saying he can’t shoot and he can’t cross a ball, send him back, here’s another opinion of him.

@dundeeunitedfc Bennie is diabolical. A lot of utd issues are actually coming from Walton dithering on the ball. On the positive side. Randell has made a difference. But we are toothless up top.

Abseits didn't predict Bennie WOULD come back QPR 1st team starter, said could. All depends on this year, if he makes himself 1st regular, the he has chance at QPR. If he doesn't we let him go. That's point of loans, they have to get in first team. Not a trial, see what you can do. Get into first team and stay there.

Scarlett, was at school last year. 17 in early August. To be fair Sutton is 2 years and eight months older, not three. Manager doesn't think he's better than Poku, Saito, Chair, Smyth or Scarlett. Looking the business in DS games isn't worth anything. I'm disappointed when DS win by margin of two goals, I want close game, it should be challenging for them. You don't improve playing poorer players. Last season Sutton's loans weren't great, Harrogate, started six games, 90 minutes once. Not great.

I fail to see WTF the age difference between Sutton and Scarlett has got to do with whether Sutton is ever going to be given another opportunity in the first team.

Manager selects Poku on other side and Chair as a 10 or as a CM playmaker, that leaves Scarlett with one 10 min appearance last season and a promising 30-40 against WBA. If you want someone who’s first touch 8 out of 10 times is a pass to the opposition then Smyth fills that criteria.

Purely going off your ridiculous statement about Sutton being finished at the club at 19 I wonder how Burrell might see that to be written off so early?

In answer to Sutton’s poor loans at both Morecombe and Harrogate, it happens , that’s the idea behind a loan. Harry Kane suffered in a similar way in his early loan spells.

                    Talking about Bennie ….

Abseits has already shown himself in poor judgment of players in talking up Joe Walsh up last season, despite the stats and everybody else saying he was crap. It’s certainly no surprise to see Wigan being forced to bring another Keeper and relegating Walsh to the bench.
