Jumped in a bit early, wanted to make a reference to Rovers so thought may as well kick the matchday thread off..
I notice they are involved in Carabao Cup tomorrow (Tues) night. We of course get the night off courtesy of that atrocious set of penalties a couple of weeks back.
I guess they might rotate their squad a bit but there will surely be some Rovers players playing their "third game in a week" against us on Saturday. Having the week off should mean we have a bit more in our legs than them.
Rovers are a massive yo-yo team in that they alternate between playoff pushes and relegation scraps season by season. They are level on 4pts with us BUT you'd have to concede that their draw at Wolves (where they got robbed of 3pts by a bent penalty decision in injury time) and their win at home to Boro is an impressive haul from games against opposition much stiffer than we've faced. It would appear Rovers are sticking two fingers up at the bookies and embarking on one of their promotion charge seasons... 8th, or higher, could well be in their sights.
This is comfortably our biggest test so far. The scrappy/scruffy attempts on goal at Pompey went in. The scrappy/scruffy attempts against Trotters did not go in. If we don't find our shooting boots and show more composure/precision in the final third it's difficult to see how we win this.
Will be intriguing to see JS's team selection for this one.
